Criteria

  • Third-Country Nationals shall reside legally in Cyprus and continuously for the last five (5) years prior to the submission of the application and hold a valid residence permit.

 

  • Periods of absence from Cyprus shall not exceed six (6) consecutive months and do not exceed in total ten (10) months within the relevant 5-year period.

 

  • Exempted from the present permit are persons residing in Cyprus as:
      • Students or for vocational training purposes,
      • Asylum seekers or authorized by a basis of subsidiary protection other than international protection,
      • On temporary basis (e.g. unpaid domestic workers, seasonal workers) or salaried employees employed by a cross-border service provider,
      • For purposes of Diplomatic, Consular Relations and Relations with International Universal Organizations.
  • Certificate of basic knowledge of Greek language AND Certificate of Cyprus political and social reality.

Documentation & Information

  1. Application Form.
  2. Identification Documents: Valid passport, including all the pages which show the stamps of arrivals and departures from Cyprus and Valid Residence Permit in Cyprus.
  3. Curriculum Vitae.
  4. Original Clear Criminal Record Certificate.
  5. Family Status: Marriage or Divorce Certificate.
  6. Financial Status: Bank Accounts Statements from a Bank institution in Cyprus for the last twelve (12) months, V.A.T. returns for the last five (5) years and tax clearance certificate, Certificates of income and income declaration, and Income tax returns for the last five (5) years and tax clearance certificate.
  7. Employment Status: Stamped Employment contract of open duration or for at least eighteen (18) months or in case of a self-employed, a written statement of self-employment and Statement of social insurance contributions for the last five (5) years.
  8. Residential Status: Title Deed or Rental Agreement, Payment Receipts and Utilities.
  9. Education Status: True Copies of Certificates of academic/vocational qualifications, confirmation of previous experience and professional/vocational permits and Certificate of basic knowledge of Greek language AND Certificate of Cyprus political and social reality.
  10. Health Insurance (If applicable).
  11. Biometrics Data (Photographs and Fingerprints) and Signature will be collected by the Immigration Department.

 

* Supporting Documentation issued by competent authorities in countries, other than Cyprus, will need to be officially translated (if needed) and also usually duly certified, depending on which is the issuing country.

** The above consist a brief, not exhaustive, list of the main documentation requested by the Migration Department for the issue of a Long-Term Residents permit. The Immigration Department might request further supplementary supporting documentation, which will correspondent to each Applicant’s specific personal circumstances.

FAQ

1. What is GESY?

GeSY stands for the General Healthcare System of Cyprus and, is the Cyprus universal health insurance system, which aims at meeting the expectations of Cypriot citizens and eligible residents for equal access to treatment and provision of high-quality healthcare, by using, in the best possible way, all available resources.

2. How is a certificate of basic knowledge of Greek language and a Certificate of Cyprus political and social reality been obtained?

The Applicant needs to attend relevant examinations conducted by the Ministry of Education of Cyprus for the obtaining of the above certificates.

These specific examinations are usually conducted twice (2) every year on specific pre-scheduled dates and the interested candidates need to secure their place before the pre-scheduled dates. Deadlines are applied.

3. Which Documentation needs to be Officially Translated?

Documentation which is in any other language other than Greek or English, needs to be officially translated.

4. Which Documentation need to be Duly Certified?

Public Documents issued in other countries, other than Cyprus, such as marriage certificate or children’s birth certificate, need to be duly certified.

5. Which certifications are concerned as Duly Certifications by the Migration Department?

Certification by a Cyprus Embassy or Consulate in the issuing country will suffice.

Otherwise, Apostille certification, where the issuing country has signed the Apostille Convention, will also suffice.

6. In which form should the income be?

The income may include salaries, pensions, dividends from shares, bank deposits interest, rents, etc.

7. How long does the examination of the application take?

The examination of the application usually takes place twelve (12) months from submission.

8. How much are the application fees payable to the Migration Department?

The application fees payable to the Migration Department is usually €30 per person.

9. Is it possible for the lifetime residency under Long-Term Residents to be withdrawn?

The long-term residence status may be withdrawn and the permit ceased to be valid in case of:

  • Fraudulent acquisition,
  • Public order or public security reasons,
  • Adoption of expulsion measures,
  • Absence from EU for twelve (12) consecutive months,
  • Absence from Cyprus for six (6) consecutive years,
  • Acquisition of the long-term residence status in another member state.
